Weatherhead Community Service Day, which took place on Saturday February 3, was an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to join forces and participate in a morning of community service. Close to 30 people braved the cold weather to help volunteer at Transitional Housing Inc. on the west side of Cleveland. The turnout was a diverse group of people, from full- and part-time M.B.A. students, to undergraduates, spouses and significant others, as well as faculty and staff.

The event turned out great. Transitional Housing was very well organized and had everything prepared and ready to go when we arrived. The project mostly entailed a lot of painting. Overall, we painted four full rooms. Everyone did a fantastic job. Transitional Housing could not have been more pleased with our efforts, hard work, and attitude. All the rooms looked like new when we were finished.

After the event everyone returned to the school for lunch and to hear from Linda Rae, COO of Keithley Instruments and a fellow graduate of the Weatherhead School, regarding community service. Rae spoke about corporate giving, community responsibility, and the way she and her fellow classmates organized community service when she was a student.

I would like to give a special thanks to everyone who participated in the event. For those who could not attend, we are planning another painting initiative in March. Keep your eyes open for the last big community service event of the year in April "Clean Up the Park." More info in the weeks ahead.
